Early Life and Family Background

Abu Hasan Muhammed Jahangir, also known as A.H.M. Jahangir, was born in Jamalpur, Mymensingh, Bangladesh, just before the country’s independence in 1971. His father, Dr. Md Obaidul Haque, was a physician and a dedicated freedom fighter, playing a vital role in Bangladesh’s liberation by serving in refugee camps in Tura, Meghalaya, India, as a Medical Officer and Freedom Fighters’ Recruiting Officer.

Jahangir’s mother, Hasna Akter Begum, was from the prominent Khan family of Islampur, Jamalpur. She was the daughter of Azizuddin Khan, who served as the Royal Secretary to Maharaja Padduyat Kumar.

The youngest of five siblings, Jahangir grew up in a household that valued education and service. His elder brother, Dr. A.H.M. Alamgir, a retired government medical officer, migrated to the United States, while his three sisters—Laila Akter Jahan, Nasima Akter Jahan, and Shamima Akter Jahan—devoted themselves to family life.

In 1995, Jahangir married Farzana Rahman, daughter of Md. Fazlur Rahman Sultan, a two-time Member of Parliament in Bangladesh. Together, they have two sons:

  • Tazrian Bin Jahangir, a business graduate from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). Involved in family business in British Columbia, Canada.
  • Yashjudan Bin Jahangir, currently pursuing Aircraft Maintenance at BCIT.

He later earned a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree from Nasirabad College, Mymensingh, and pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, graduating as part of the 24th batch.
